Oilheat: It's What's at the Heart of Hart

happy family Clean, safe and friendly - these are words that describe why our customers choose to live on Long Island. And that's why Oilheat is the perfect fuel for our Long Island friends and neighbors. Oilheat has all these benefits ... and more.

Oilheat is safe.

  • It will not burn in a liquid state. In order to light heating oil on fire, you must heat it above 140 degrees, the temperature at which it begins to vaporize.
  • There are visible warnings if there is an oil burner malfunction. With home heating oil systems, carbon monoxide leaks rarely happen without warning. If an Oilheat system should malfunction, it will release smoke or soot as a visible warning; these serve as early indicators that something is wrong, long before dangerous levels of carbon monoxide can be released into the air.
  • It is non-explosive. A match dropped into heating oil will go out as if it were dropped into water.

Oilheat is "green."

  • It burns cleanly. Today's Oilheat burns 95% cleaner than in 1970. Since it burns so cleanly, it comes well within the air pollution standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. Low-sulfur products and biofuels, such as those made from domestic renewable resources, will further reduce the already near-zero emissions.
  • It is kind to the environment. In fact, residential heating oil equipment creates such a negligible amount of emissions that heating oil is not even regulated by the Federal Clean Air Act.
  • It can be blended with renewable resources. Read about our clean and green BioBlend fuel here.

Oilheat is dependable.

  • It offers dependable and safe storage. With Oilheat, you benefit from having your fuel source safely stored in a tank on your property - with no need to worry about the weather or disruptions in the fuel supply.
  • There will always be a plentiful supply. Even during the coldest winter months, there's more than enough Oilheat for everyone. In fact, the United States has a Strategic Petroleum Reserve with a capacity of 727 million barrels - the world's largest emergency oil stockpile - in addition to a two-million-barrel heating oil reserve. There are over 50 oil producing countries, and the U.S. is not dependent on any one country or region for its supply.
  • You can rely on us! Hart Petroleum offers dependable, courteous personalized service - with around-the-clock emergency response and a small-town, neighborly feeling that makes us easy to do business with.

Oilheat is economical.

  • The price is right. Oilheat has been the value leader for the majority of the past 20 years.
  • Competition keeps prices in check. Competition among local Oilheat companies helps to ensure a better value.

Oilheat is efficient.

  • Oilheat is hot! Of all heating fuels, Oilheat has the hottest flame - for satisfying warmth, and rapid space and hot water heating.
  • Oilheat systems are super-efficient! Thanks to major advancements being made in Oilheat burner technology, some Oilheat systems now boast efficiency ratings of over 95%! Modern Oilheat equipment actually burns less fuel. The average annual fuel consumption in 1973 was 1,294 gallons; and now it is only 833 gallons - that's 35% less fuel.
In addition to all these benefits, Oilheat offers value-added full service - including price protection, service plans, our Flex Pay budget plan. Click here for more about Hart Petroleum's services.

Do Not Switch to Gas Heat

The gas utilities spend millions advertising their fuel as plentiful and domestic. But there's plenty they won't tell you. It's a good thing the media does - from the pages of your daily newspaper to a recent HBO documentary, natural gas is getting a lot of bad publicity.

Here Are 5 Reasons Why Oilheat Is Better Than Gas Heat
  1. Oilheat is better for the environment than gas heat.
Utility gas is made up largely of methane, a greenhouse gas that is 60 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Oilheat is moving towards new environmentally friendly blends like Hart Petroleum's BioBlend, which blends the traditional petroleum-based fuel with renewable resources. Tomorrow's blend of reduced-sulfur Oilheat and biofuel "may well become the preferred fuel for lowering greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.," according to the Energy Research Center.
  2. Oilheat bills are easier to understand than gas heat bills.
Unlike utility gas bills, which contain line after line of charges, your Hart Petroleum bills are only for the gallons you receive - they tell you exactly what you're paying for, in no uncertain terms.
  3. Oilheat upgrades cost less than gas conversions ... and save you more money.
Converting from an Oilheating system to a gas heat system can cost as much as $9,000 - and then there's no payback from this substantial investment. That's why the Consumer Energy Council of America (CECA) has concluded that: "In 95 out of 100 cases, it makes economic sense to stick with oil, and if an energy-related investment is desired, to invest in conservation."
  4. With Oilheat - and Hart Petroleum - you get warm, personal service - something you won't get from the gas utility.
Hart Petroleum is a family owned and operated company offering personalized, "I'll-be-right-over" service. We know your home ... your heating system ... and most of all, you. In contrast, the gas company is often a large, often multinational, bureaucratic entity.
  5. Oilheat is safer than gas heat.
Lastly, nothing beats the safety record of Oilheat. Unlike natural gas, Oilheat is not explosive, and inhalation of fuel-oil fumes is not lethal. What's more, if you have a system malfunction, an Oilheating system will give you telltale signs such as smoke, odors or even soot before releasing dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO). Gas heating systems give you no warning of CO production or release, leading to potentially fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.
